Mamabear, Jes and Little Bear would love to participate.

You can count us in for Silly Sally by Audrey Wood and Guess How Much I Love You by Sam McBratney.

Put BarefootLucy/Wolf down for Understood Betsy and
BarefootLucy/DizzyDazze down for Alice in Wonderland.
If someone else has done either of those (I'm so far
behind in email that I'm not sure I've seen all the
messages on this thread), we have lots of other
favorites we can choose from!

My son's and my very favorite book together has to be
Paddle to the Sea by Holling C Holling, but planting a
box in its honor in our area wouldn't be nearly as
neat as planting one in the area where the book took
place - Lake Nipigon Country in Canada, all the Great
Lakes, Niagara Falls, St. Lawrence River. Soooo..
I'm wondering if I might plant an idea in someone's
head in the Northern states who may want to ponder a
box on this wonderful book?

It's about a little Indian Boy near Lake Nipigon who
carves a little wooden canoe with a little man carved
into it. He sets his little canoe (called Paddle to
the Sea) free as the Spring thaw begins near his home,
hoping that it will journey all the way to the
Atlantic Ocean. The book is about the little canoe's
journey and all the people and things it met along the
way. Needless to say, it is so geographically
oriented that planting it in East Texas just wouldn't
be right!

If this has struck someone's interest, but they
haven't read the book, we might be able to work out a
loan of the book, if their library doesn't have it.
It's a fairly short read, BTW.

Esperanza planted the Top 'O the Pickle Box in Michigan's Upper
Peninsula last summer in honor of this book.

Irishtinker:

I'm so sorry to hear that. The weather people have been teasing us for
some time now, but nothing yet. I have heard some horror stories from
people north of me (I'm right on the lake (Ontario)) How will that
effect letterboxing? I have only taken it up this past summer and
havn't even thought about the difficulties of snow covered ground. I
will take the winter as an opportunity to put together tonnes of boxes
and they will act as a magnet for all letterboxers all over the world
and everyone will flock to Ontario in a mad frenzy to find the latest
boxes. Alrigh, that may have been just a little bit of wishful
thinking, but the winter has it's advantages.

Again, thanks for all of you work on this series.

Yes, southern Ontario. I live in the GTA, but consider myself as very
portable. I will probably not be able to do any planting until spring
though....sorry.
